Z-96.3 Continues On Low Power; Programming Changes Coming Soon

Listeners across North Central Kansas have likely noticed disruptions to 96.3 KZDY-FM, prompting Dierking Communications to provide an update on the station’s current status.

The primary transmitter for KZDY-FM suffered a “catastrophic internal failure” in late February, forcing the station off the air. Engineers determined the unit required extensive repairs and shipped it back to the manufacturer. As of this morning, the repair process is underway, with an anticipated return date to the station late next week. Following its return, the transmitter will be re-installed at the tower site in Glen Elder.

In the interim, the station is operating at a significantly reduced power using an auxiliary transmitter. This low-power operation has limited the coverage area to Glen Elder and Cawker City, and has also made the station susceptible to interference from other 96.3 FM frequencies in Manhattan and Wichita, depending on atmospheric conditions.

Listeners may also have noticed a change in programming. For nearly two decades, 96.3 FM has broadcast an adult contemporary format via satellite. However, the station has experienced numerous issues with its satellite transmission in recent months.

Dierking Communications has taken this opportunity to re-evaluate the station’s programming. Currently, 96.3 FM is simulcasting sister-station KD Country 94, a country music format. This will continue until a new music format is launched later this month.

We really think you’re going to enjoy the new music format on 96.3 FM, but for now, that will remain a secret until we are ready to launch it.
