Teen Driver Injured in Leavenworth County Police Pursuit

A police chase in Leavenworth County ended in a single-vehicle accident early Saturday morning. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2007 Dodge Charger driven by 18-year-old Jossue D. Santos-Alejo of Kansas City, Kansas, was being pursued by law enforcement on U.S. 73 just north of Home Place.

The driver lost control while navigating a curve, causing the vehicle to veer off the road to the right and overturn. Santos-Alejo was ejected from the car through the sunroof and transported to KU Medical Center. A 17-year-old passenger, Damian G. Rios Chavira, was also injured and taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Kansas Highway Patrol has not yet released information regarding the specific circumstances that led to the police pursuit.
