A Garden City man, Ricardo Galvez-Aguayo, 33, was arrested following a months-long investigation into the February death of a Ulysses woman from a Fentanyl overdose. Authorities found illegal drugs in his home, and he is charged with Distribution of a Controlled Substance causing Death and Interference with Law Enforcement.

GARDEN CITY, KS – A routine police call for a trespassing complaint at a local motel led to the arrest of a man wanted for homicide in Maryland.

Jabari, the eldest male eastern black rhinoceros at Lee Richardson Zoo, passed away on July 11, 2025. He was integral to conservation efforts for his critically endangered species, born in 2013. A Kansas man, Craig William Potts, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 18 months of supervised probation for vehicular homicide in a 2023 crash that killed 16-year-old Cassandra K. Linder. Potts’ sentence includes a suspended jail term and mandatory conditions, with restitution determined by a civil lawsuit.

A 22-year-old Garden City man, Joseph Huerta, faces charges after a high-speed crash early Monday morning at the intersection of 8th and Fulton Streets. Huerta fled on foot but was caught later and treated at a hospital. He was arrested for driving under the influence after hitting a building.
