Fugitive Homicide Suspect Arrested at Garden City Motel

GARDEN CITY, KS – A routine police call for a trespassing complaint at a local motel led to the arrest of a man wanted for homicide in Maryland.

On August 13, shortly after 5:30 p.m., Garden City police were dispatched to the Best Western – Emerald Inn & Suites, located at 2412 E. Kansas Avenue, following a request from motel staff. Employees reported a man, identified as 61-year-old James Eaton, was refusing to leave the premises and asked that he be criminally trespassed.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with Eaton. During the course of their investigation, a check of his background revealed an active felony warrant from Maryland. The warrant was for failure to appear in court on a variety of charges, including homicide.

Eaton was immediately taken into custody without incident. He is currently being held at the Finney County Jail, pending extradition to Maryland to face the charges. Authorities have not released any further details regarding the specific charges against Eaton or the circumstances of the alleged homicide.
