Marshall County to Participate in Statewide Tornado Drill This Wednesday

MARYSVILLE, KS – As part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, Marshall County residents should prepare for sirens and alerts mid-morning this Wednesday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) offices serving Kansas and Missouri, in coordination with local emergency management, have announced a statewide tornado drill scheduled for Wednesday at 10:00 AM.

What to Expect

During the drill, the following systems will be activated:

  • NOAA Weather Radios: The NWS will trigger a test alert on all weather radios.
  • Outdoor Warning Sirens: Marshall County Emergency Management confirmed that sirens across the entire county will be sounded at 10:00 AM.

Purpose of the Drill

Sara Ann Naaf, Assistant Director of Marshall County Emergency Management, emphasizes that this is a planned exercise and not a cause for alarm.

“We are letting you know so that you are not alarmed by the sirens or weather radios going off,” Naaf stated. “We encourage you to use this opportunity to practice your tornado drill.”

Emergency officials recommend that households, schools, and businesses use the 10:00 AM window to:

  1. Identify your “safe place” (basement, storm cellar, or interior room on the lowest floor).
  2. Practice getting everyone to that location quickly.
  3. Check emergency kits for fresh batteries, water, and essential supplies.

For those with questions regarding local siren coverage or emergency preparedness, Marshall County Emergency Management invites residents to reach out to their office for more information at (785) 562-4550.
