Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition Awards Grants to Encourage Breastfeeding in Kansas

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., June 15, 2026— In an impactful effort to support breastfeeding families throughout Kansas, the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition (KBC) Mini-Grant Initiative has distributed funding totaling $5,000 to six local breastfeeding coalitions.

The following local breastfeeding coalition projects received funding from the KBC:

  • Ford County Breastfeeding Coalition – support the 10th Annual Baby Expo
  • Harvey County Breastfeeding Coalition – host five “Infant-Care Clinics”, including one in Spanish
  • Miami County Breastfeeding Coalition – promotional signage for community events
  • The Lactation Club (Clay, Cloud, Jewell, Marshall, Republic, and Washington counties) – create a Mobile Lactation Station
  • Pottawatomie County Breastfeeding Coalition – work with employers and healthcare providers to increase breastfeeding support
  • Smith County Breastfeeding Coalition – start a local breastfeeding support group

“Over 90% of families in Kansas choose to breastfeed,” said Sarah Jolley, Chair of the KBC Board of Directors. “Breastfeeding is important to the mother and child’s health and well-being. We look forward to working with these local coalitions to build communities where families can be supported in their decision to breastfeed.”

The Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition (KBC) is a statewide nonprofit organization. With a mission to improve the health and well-being of Kansans by working collaboratively to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding/human milk feeding, KBC envisions a state where breastfeeding/human milk feeding is expected and supported. To achieve this, KBC focuses on improving policies, systems, and environments to remove barriers to breastfeeding.
