Community Memorial Healthcare Hosts Town Hall Meeting Ahead Of November Election

Listen to the Wednesday, September 18, 2024 town hall held at CMH’s South Plaza Conference Room below.

Community Memorial Healthcare (CMH) is hosting five town hall meetings to inform the public about a proposed renewal of the half-cent countywide sales tax that benefits the hospital. The current tax, approved in the 2019 election, has been in effect for four years and has generated approximately $1.2 million annually for CMH’s general operations.

As rural hospitals face closure nationwide, CMH and others have sought public tax support to maintain high-quality healthcare delivery. CMH is a private, non-profit critical access hospital that accepts all patients, regardless of their ability to pay. Due to the county’s high uninsured and underinsured rates, CMH incurs significant uncompensated care costs.

The proposed ballot question seeks to continue the current half-cent sales tax for another five years. The public is encouraged to attend town hall meetings to learn more about the proposed tax and its importance in sustaining a locally owned and operated healthcare system.

Remaining Town Hall Meetings:

  • Wednesday, September 25th at 6:30 PM at Valley Heights High School’s commons area
  • Wednesday, October 2nd at 6:30 PM at Frankfort’s Altstadt Community Center
  • Wednesday, October 9th at 6:30 PM at the Beattie Community Center

For additional information, annual financial statistics, and the full ballot question, please visit the CMH webpage. The public is also invited to submit questions anonymously or request to be contacted by a CMH representative.

For more information, please contact Ashley Kracht, CMH Director of Public Relations, at 785-562-4379.
