Six Kansas Communities Awarded 2024-2025 Planning and Programming Grants by KDOT SRTS Program

The Kansas Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School Program announces six Kansas communities received the 2024-2025 Planning and Programming (P&P) grants.

These grants will fund SRTS plans covering a total of eight schools in Sedan, Riverton, Silver Lake, Wellsville, Wallace County Schools and Weskan Unified School District 242. Work on these plans will start in August, and final plans will be completed in April 2025.

This is the second round of planning grants being awarded by KDOT. The next opportunity to apply for SRTS grants is currently scheduled for the summer of 2025. More information is available at https://www.kansassrts.org/grants-and-funding

Planning recently finished for the first round of P&P grants that were awarded to five Kansas communities last year. These plans include an analysis of existing conditions, public outreach results and recommended infrastructure and non-infrastructure solutions to help more children safely walk, bike, and roll to school. The plans can be found at https://saferoutes.ksdot.gov/about-the-program.

Boil Water Advisory Re-Issued for the City of Haddam, Washington County

Residents of Washington County are advised to boil their water for at least one minute before drinking, preparing food, or using it for ice cubes. This precaution comes after a waterline break at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment's (KDHE) public water supply system, which resulted in a loss of pressure and potential bacterial contamination. KDHE will continue to monitor the situation and issue any necessary rescind orders.
