TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly and Transportation Secretary Calvin Reed today announced $5.9 million in awards for nine transportation construction projects through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s (KDOT) Cost Share Program for spring 2026. This state investment will leverage more than $3.7 million in community matching funds, totaling more than $9.6 million for infrastructure improvements that will enhance safety, support local economies, and improve connectivity across Kansas.
“Through smart and targeted investments that leverage state and local funds, we’re continuing to make needed transportation improvements in every corner of the state,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “The Cost Share Program is essential to making our communities safer, stronger, and more accessible for all.”
The KDOT Cost Share Program plays a critical role in helping both rural and urban areas advance transportation projects. Its focus areas include improving safety, supporting job retention and growth, alleviating congestion, and enhancing access and mobility for Kansans. The program is a cornerstone of the Kelly administration’s 10-year, bipartisan Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program (IKE).
“Kansas communities understand their transportation needs best and the Cost Share Program provides opportunities to help address those needs,” said Kansas Department of Transportation Secretary Calvin Reed. “KDOT continues to be committed to working with communities to help deliver these important, locally-driven projects.”
Since its inception in fall 2019, the Cost Share Program has awarded state funding of nearly $170 million to Kansas communities. As one of KDOT’s most popular initiatives, it has supported 216 projects statewide, attracting an additional $135 million in local matching funds.
Spring 2026 Cost Share recipients are:
- City of Garden Plain – North Garden Plain Walk and Bike Connectivity Project
- City of Leavenworth – Leavenworth’s Safe Streets Approach to 10th Avenue
- City of Oberlin – North York & West Adams Street Reconstruction and Safety Improvement Project
- City of Paola – Baptiste Drive Rebuild
- City of South Hutchinson – Main Street Corridor Safety & Revitalization Project
- Haskell County – NN Road Improvements
- Lincoln County – Westfall Road Improvements
- Marion County – Nighthawk Road: 190th to U.S. 56
- Riley County – Winkler Mills Road Bridge Replacement
