KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The New York Yankees flexed their offensive muscles Tuesday night, routing the Kansas City Royals 10-2 thanks to a five-RBI performance from Austin Wells and a colossal home run from Aaron Judge.
Wells was the offensive catalyst for New York, launching a three-run homer in the fourth inning off Royals starter Noah Cameron and later adding a two-run double in the sixth. His five RBIs matched a career high.
Not to be outdone, Aaron Judge continued his impressive season with a monstrous two-run blast in the first inning. The 469-foot shot, with an exit velocity of 117.9 mph, landed on the roof of the Royals Hall of Fame in left field, marking the third-longest home run in the majors this season, trailing only Angels’ sluggers Mike Trout and Logan O’Hoppe. Judge also chipped in a bloop RBI single in the sixth.
Yankees hurler Max Fried (9-1) bounced back admirably from his first loss of the season, delivering seven innings of two-run ball to earn the win.
The Yankees broke the game open in the sixth, plating five more runs off the Kansas City bullpen. Among the highlights was Cody Bellinger’s RBI single, which marked the 1,000th hit of his career.
Royals starter Noah Cameron (2-2) struggled, allowing six runs and seven hits over 5 2/3 innings. It was the first time in his young big league career that he surrendered more than one run or failed to complete six innings.
For the Royals, Jac Caglianone singled and had an RBI groundout in his home debut. Jonathan India added a solo home run in the sixth, and Tyler Tolbert recorded his first big league hit with a single in the eighth.
The star power extended beyond the field at Kauffman Stadium, with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Hall of Famers George Brett and Reggie Jackson, and actor and notable Yankees fan Alfonso Ribeiro among the notable attendees.
Judge’s remarkable consistency continued, as he has now reached base safely in 61 of 65 games this season, maintaining a perfect on-base record in all Yankees road games.
Looking ahead, the Yankees will send right-hander Clarke Schmidt (2-3, 4.04 ERA) to the mound on Wednesday night. The Royals will counter with left-hander Kris Bubic (5-3, 1.43 ERA). Pregame coverage for Wednesday’s contest on Superstar Country 102.5 FM & 1530 AM KQNK begins at 6:00 PM, with first pitch from Kauffman Stadium slated for 6:40 PM.
