Kansas Highway Patrol Reports Fatal Accident In Republic County

A fatal collision occurred on U.S. 36 in Republic County, Kansas, on Monday evening at approximately 9:30 p.m.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that a westbound 2016 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer driven by Casey E. A. Tate, 62, of Luray, struck a Case IH tractor towing a farm implement. The tractor was being operated by Andrew J. Pumphrey, 38, of Mankato.

Tragically, Pumphrey was ejected from the tractor and pronounced deceased at the scene. His remains were transported to Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home.

A passenger in the semi-trailer, Michelle H. Hauger, 46, of Luray, sustained injuries and was transported to Republic County Hospital. The driver of the semi-trailer, Tate, experienced minor injuries but did not require immediate medical attention. Both Tate and Hauger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, as confirmed by the KHP.
