Expect hot and humid conditions this afternoon and Wednesday afternoon, with heat indices of 105 to 114 degrees this afternoon and Wednesday afternoon.. A weak cold front will provide a 20 to 60 percent chance for storms late Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night, some of these storms may be severe. We will see a slight cool down into the weekend before we heat up again next week.

Excessive Heat Warning Today through Thursday afternoon south of US Hwy 36, and through Wednesday afternoon along and north of US Hwy 36.

EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT WEDNESDAY- WHAT: Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 110 expected.
- WHERE: Republic, Washington, Brown, Marshall, and Nemaha Counties.
- WHEN: Until 7 PM CDT Wednesday.
- IMPACTS: Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
