Yankees Power Past Royals 7-0 to Complete Three-Game Sweep

NEW YORK — The New York Yankees continued their offensive dominance on Sunday, riding a barrage of home runs to a decisive 7-0 victory over the struggling Kansas City Royals, completing a three-game series sweep.

The win, which followed a rain delay of 2 hours and 45 minutes, marked the conclusion of a high-scoring series that saw the Yankees record nine total home runs. The final two games of the set were won by a combined margin of 20-4, a stark contrast to the team’s earlier reliance on walk-off victories.

Aaron Judge ignited the offense immediately, belting a two-run, 425-foot homer onto the netting above Monument Park in the first inning. The blast was Judge’s sixth home run in eight games and his fifth opening-frame long ball of the season.

Ben Rice continued his torrid streak in the second inning, connecting on a solo shot for his fourth consecutive game with a home run. With the solo blast, Rice reached eight homers on the season, moving within one of Judge for the team lead. The duo joined prestigious company, becoming just the third set of Yankees teammates to each record at least eight homers through the first 22 games of a season, matching feats by Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra (1956) and Judge and Anthony Rizzo (2022).

Trent Grisham added to the Yankees’ cushion in the fifth with a three-run homer.

On the mound, Ryan Weathers (1-2) turned in a stellar performance to earn his first win as a Yankee. Recovering from a rocky outing against the Los Angeles Angels earlier in the week, the left-hander tossed 7 1/3 innings, allowing only five hits while striking out eight and walking just one.

The loss extends the Royals’ slide to seven consecutive defeats and 10 losses in their last 12 games. Kansas City starter Cole Ragans (0-4) struggled with command, issuing a career-high eight walks and allowing seven runs in 4 1/3 innings. The loss was the Royals’ 11th straight against New York, dating back to their 2024 AL Division Series matchup.

The Royals will look to snap their skid on Monday when they return home to face the Baltimore Orioles.
