Northwest Kansas was rattled by a series of small earthquakes on Saturday and early Sunday, following a similar tremor late last month. While no damage has been reported, many residents in the affected communities felt the shaking.
On Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recorded three distinct quakes. The first, a magnitude 2.6, occurred just after 2 p.m. approximately 4.3 miles southwest of Bogue. Later that afternoon, just before 4 p.m., a magnitude 2.5 quake was reported 5.5 miles south of Hill City. Moments later, a third tremor, measuring magnitude 2.7, was recorded approximately 7 miles northeast of Collyer.
This recent seismic activity builds on a previous event, a magnitude 2.1 quake southwest of Bogue, which was reported by the Kansas Geological Survey on June 28.
According to the Graham County Sheriff’s office, there have been no reports of damage stemming from these recent earthquakes.
