BUTLER COUNTY — Law enforcement officials have taken a suspect into custody following a hit-and-run crash late Monday evening that left a young girl critically injured in Augusta.
According to the Augusta Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred just after 7:00 p.m. in the 1000 block of Campbell Street. Emergency responders located the injured juvenile girl at the scene, and she was immediately transported to a hospital in nearby Wichita to receive treatment for critical injuries.
The driver involved fled the area prior to police arrival. However, physical evidence recovered at the scene—including scattered debris on the roadway—led investigators to identify the suspect’s vehicle as a 2005 to 2009 Pontiac G6 of an unknown color.
Following a public appeal for information and tips, authorities confirmed late Monday night that an arrest had been made in connection with the crash.
Police have not yet released additional details regarding the incident or the identity of the driver taken into custody. The investigation remains ongoing.
