SALINE COUNTY – Central Kansas experienced a series of small earthquakes over the weekend, with three separate tremors reported in rural Saline County near Assaria. Despite the seismic activity, authorities have received no reports of damage or calls regarding the quakes.
The first significant seismic event occurred just before 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, when a magnitude 3.4 earthquake struck approximately 4.3 miles east of Assaria, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). A slightly weaker 2.7 magnitude quake rattled the same area a short time later.
On Sunday, just after 5:35 p.m., the USGS reported another earthquake, this one measuring a magnitude 3.3, approximately 4 miles southeast of Assaria.
The Saline County Sheriff’s office confirmed that no damage had been reported and no calls from the public were received in connection with any of the weekend’s seismic events. While small earthquakes are not uncommon in parts of Kansas, three within such a close proximity and short timeframe drew attention to the region’s geological activity.
