Applications are currently being accepted for a limited grant initiative aimed at assisting low-income households in replacing malfunctioning septic systems. This program is available to residents whose homes are located within Clay, Cloud, Marshall, Republic, and Washington Counties. It is important to note that new constructions, including homes and businesses, do not qualify for this funding opportunity.
To be eligible for financial assistance, homeowners must demonstrate an income that is at or below 133 percent of the federal poverty level, which would allow them to receive up to 75 percent of the total bid cost for the septic system replacement. Additionally, those with incomes ranging from 134 to 200 percent of the poverty level may qualify for a grant covering 50 percent of the total expenses. Given the limited nature of the funding, priority will be given based on income levels and an assessment of potential water quality risks.
The deadline for submitting applications is set for September 15, 2024. For further information and to obtain an application, interested parties should reach out to Marlene Stamm, Sanitarian, at 785-770-2057 or via email at mstamm@washingtoncountyks.gov.
