The Kansas City Royals secured a 4-2 victory in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday, thanks to a crucial 2-run home run by catcher Salvador Perez in the eighth inning. Perez, who had just returned from a leg and hip injury sustained in a previous game against the New York Mets, delivered a powerful hit that turned the tide in favor of the Royals. This pivotal moment came right after shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. got on base with an infield single and stole second.
Adding to their lead in the ninth inning, the Royals got an insurance run from right-fielder Hunter Renfroe, who smashed a solo home run. The team’s reliever, James McArthur, entered the game and secured his fourth save of the season by striking out Robbie Grossman to close out the match. Starting pitcher Brady Singer put in a solid performance, allowing only two runs on three hits over five innings of work, despite giving up a 2-run home run to White Sox shortstop Paul DeJong.
With Nick Anderson pitching a scoreless seventh inning and earning the win, the Royals improved their record to 12-6 for the season. Notably, they have maintained a perfect 6-0 record against the Chicago White Sox in their matchups so far. The team’s resilience and strong performances from key players like Perez and Renfroe have been instrumental in their success this season.
