The Chicago White Sox secured a victory against the Kansas City Royals with a score of 2-1 in the second game of a doubleheader on Wednesday night. This win marked Chicago’s first triumph over the Royals this season after facing them seven times. In the earlier game of the doubleheader, Kansas City emerged victorious with a score of 4-2.
During Game 2, the White Sox took the lead 1-0 in the fourth inning when Andrew Vaughn hit a double to left field, and Dominic Fletcher brought him home with a sharp single down the right field line. Gavin Sheets extended Chicago’s lead by hitting a home run in the sixth inning off a first-pitch fastball from Royals’ right-hander Michael Wacha, hitting the ball off the right field foul pole for his third homer of the year.
The Royals managed to narrow the lead to 2-1 in the seventh inning when Nick Loftin singled to right, advanced to second on Adam Frazier’s groundout, moved to third on an errant pickoff attempt, and scored on Hunter Renfroe’s groundout. Despite Kansas City’s efforts to tie the game in the eighth inning, a crucial play by Chicago catcher Korey Lee, who threw out pinch runner Dairon Blanco attempting to steal second, helped secure the win for the White Sox. Deivi Garcia, the White Sox reliever, closed out the game with two scoreless innings, earning his first save of the season.
Kansas City will enjoy a day off this Thursday, prior to kicking off a 3-game series against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.
