Royals Win 5th Straight In Walk-Off Fashion Over Astros 4-3

Salvador Perez delivered a walk-off single in the 10th inning, propelling the Kansas City Royals to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. The win marked the Royals’ fifth consecutive triumph, showcasing their resilience and determination on the field. Garrett Hampson, who entered the 10th inning as the automatic runner, wasted no time racing home when Perez smacked a single to center against Wander Suero. James McArthur’s exceptional pitching performance, with two scoreless innings, secured the win for the Royals.

Perez and Nelson Velázquez were instrumental in the Royals’ success, each contributing two hits to the team’s offensive efforts. Additionally, Bobby Witt Jr. and Maikel Garcia played pivotal roles by driving in a run each. The Royals’ bullpen, consisting of Nick Anderson, Chris Stratton, John Schreiber, and McArthur, showcased their dominance by combining for five scoreless innings of four-hit ball in relief of starting pitcher Cole Ragans. Witt’s exceptional diving stop on a two-out single by Jeremy Peña in the 10th inning prevented the Astros from taking the lead, highlighting his defensive prowess.

Despite a strong offensive performance from Yordan Alvarez, who recorded four hits and two RBIs, the Astros fell short in their bid for victory. Ragans, the Royals’ starting pitcher, limited the damage caused by the Astros’ early offensive surge, surrendering only one run in the first inning. Houston struggled with runners in scoring position, going 5 for 18, and left a staggering 13 runners on base throughout the game. Cristian Javier, the Astros’ right-hander, displayed solid pitching, allowing three runs, two of which were earned, and five hits in 5 1/3 innings.

The Astros and Royals are set to continue their three-game series on Wednesday, with RHP Spencer Arrighetti making his highly anticipated major league debut for Houston. He will face off against Seth Lugo, who boasts an impressive 1-0 record and a 0.71 ERA. Pregame on Classic Hits KQNK begins at 6 p.m. with a 6:40 p.m. first pitch from Kauffman Stadium.
