On August 1, 2026, at around 1:03 a.m., Riley County Fire District #1 responded to a residential fire in Leonardville. Firefighters contained the blaze in about 40 minutes amid heavy damage and a partial roof collapse. A total of 24 firefighters and 11 apparatus were involved, with no reported injuries. The cause is under investigation.
