(RILEY COUNTY, Kan. August 3, 2026)- At approximately 1:03 a.m. on August 1, 2026, Riley County Fire District #1 responded to a report of a residential structure fire on the 300 block of E. Chase Street in Leonardville. Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire on the rear of the structure and roof.
Firefighters made an aggressive exterior attack before moving inside to continue extinguishing the fire. The fire was brought under control within approximately 40 minutes.
Crews remained on scene until approximately 4:15 a.m. conducting extensive overhaul due to a partial roof collapse. The structure sustained extensive damage.
A total of 11 apparatus and 24 firefighters responded to the incident. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
