Finding a new doctor, discovering a club to join, signing up for youth activities or meeting someone new often starts with one conversation. Meet Marysville was created to make those conversations happen.
The community event will take place from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, alongside the Marysville Farmers Market in the Seventh Street Corridor and the 700 block of Broadway. The 700 block of Broadway will be closed to traffic that morning.
Residents of all ages are invited to explore booths hosted by local organizations, businesses, churches and community groups, learn about the resources they offer and spend the morning connecting with neighbors.
Last year’s event, Welcome to Marysville, focused on welcoming newcomers, but organizers expanded the concept after hearing from longtime residents who wanted the same opportunity to learn more about what Marysville has to offer.
“We talk about what makes a town feel like home,” OneMarysville Board President Mandy Cook said. “A lot of it comes down to knowing people, feeling welcome and finding your place. Meet Marysville gives people a chance to do that.”
Families will find activities for children, yard games, photo opportunities with the Black Squirrel and Bulldog mascots, giveaways and plenty of opportunities to visit with participating organizations. Many booths will offer prize drawings, giveaways and other surprises throughout the morning.
OneMarysville also will hand out OneMarysville Money at random locations during the event, so participants will have to take part to find out where it turns up.
Visitors also can sign up for the Highway 36 Treasure Hunt garage sales during the event for $5, a $5 savings, and receive a 30-word listing instead of the standard 20 words. The special pricing is available only during Meet Marysville. OneMarysville also will give away free “I Love Where I Live” T-shirts to the first 25 visitors to its booth.
Participating organizations and businesses include Blue River Rail Trail, Blue Valley Technologies, Church of Christ, City of Marysville, Community Memorial Healthcare, Evangelical United Church of Christ, Girl Scouts, Good Shepherd Lutheran School, Highland Community College, Koester House Museum and Gardens, Marshall County Arts Cooperative, Marshall County Community Band, Marshall County Community Choir, Marshall County Democrats, Marshall County Historical Society, Marysville Area Community Theatre, Marysville Community Foundation, Marysville Elementary School, Marysville Junior and Senior High School, Marysville Police Department, Marysville Public Library, Marysville Rotary Club, Marysville Union Pacific Depot Preservation Society, Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, New Hope Church, OneMarysville, Pawnee Mental Health, Pony Express Museum and Barn, Simple Pleasures & Treasures, STAR Rental, The Trust Company and TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly).
