Quail Forever Announces A New Chapter In The Sunflower State

Blue River Chapter Will Help Build Habitat In Northeast Kansas

Quail Forever is excited to announce the addition of a new chapter in northeast Kansas. The Blue River Chapter will serve the areas in and around Washington and Marshall County and work with local landowners to improve wildlife habitat.

Unique among national conservation organizations, chapters of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever retain 100 percent decision-making control over fundraising dollars, allowing volunteers to support impactful wildlife habitat projects, public access initiatives and conservation education programs throughout the upland bird range. Pheasants Forever’s Kansas regional representative, Mika Rezac, will work closely with the new chapter to support the organization’s vision to sustain abundant populations of wild quail, pheasants and other wildlife.

“I’m thrilled to welcome the Blue River Chapter of Quail Forever as the newest addition to Kansas,” Rezac said. “As a quail-focused chapter, they are dedicated to education, outreach, and creating more habitat for the species most prevalent in their area. At the same time, their habitat efforts will also benefit pheasants and other wildlife, creating the potential for stronger upland bird populations across the region.”

While northeast Kansas faces challenges for upland birds, the chapter volunteers are excited to help turn the tide and bring better habitat to their community.

“The newly formed Blue River Quail Forever Chapter was created by Washington and Marshall County community members who remember when pheasants and quail were a familiar sight in our area of the state,” said Tyler Shriver, chapter president. “Too often we hear, ‘back in the day we had birds everywhere’—but we asked ourselves, why does it have to stay that way? Our chapter is committed to bringing back habitat projects that will help restore quail and pheasant populations to the area for future generations. Among our upcoming efforts is the Project One Pass initiative, which partners with landowners to create habitat strips that boost both wildlife and potentially crop yields.”

A pint night is being planned as the kickoff event for the chapter. To learn more about the chapter and upcoming events, contact the Chapter President Tyler Shriver at blueriverqf@gmail.com or follow
