USD 273 Postpones First Day of School to August 19 for Safety and Prep

BELOIT, Kan. — Unified School District 273 announced an important update to its academic calendar, moving the official start of the 2026–2027 school year to Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The adjustment applies to all students across the district, including preschool programs.

District officials stated that the schedule change was made to ensure students and staff return to a safe, comfortable, and fully prepared learning environment. With the start date shifted, the revised last day of school is now set for May 26, 2027.

“This was not a decision we made lightly,” district administration shared in a statement to families. “We understand this change may require adjustments, and we sincerely appreciate your flexibility and continued support. We can’t wait to welcome our Trojan family back and kick off an amazing 2026–2027 school year together!”

Key Back-to-School Dates & Reminders

Despite the delay to the first day of classes, several preliminary events will proceed as originally planned:

  • Meet the Teacher (Beloit Elementary): Tuesday, August 18, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Orientations & Athletics: Junior/Senior High orientations, athletic parent meetings, and other scheduled back-to-school activities will take place as planned.
  • School Communications: Individual schools within USD 273 will send out updated schedules and additional details next week.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to monitor direct communications from their students’ respective schools for further updates ahead of the new start date.
