Pregnant Woman Killed in Early Morning Shooting; Suspect in Custody

Wichita, KS – The Wichita Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning, resulting in the death of a pregnant woman. Authorities have identified 19-year-old Matthew Wayne Criscenso as a suspect and have taken him into custody, according to Sedgwick County booking records.

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Naomi Oglesby, a Wichita resident. Officer Rick Pena confirmed that Oglesby was pregnant at the time of the incident. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she was pronounced dead at 5:04 a.m.

Doctors were able to successfully deliver Oglesby’s infant. The newborn is currently receiving critical care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at a local Wichita hospital.

Police apprehended Criscenso in the 700 block of Laura Street. He was booked into jail just before 10 a.m. Sunday on requested charges including first-degree murder, battery, domestic battery, disorderly conduct, criminal restraint, and contempt of court, according to online jail records. Criscenso is expected to make his initial court appearance on these charges later this week.
