The USGS has reported a third earthquake near Glen Elder, Kansas. This 2.7 magnitude quake struck at 6:27 a.m., with an epicenter 4 kilometers (1.86 miles) northwest of Glen Elder on K-128 highway, at a depth of 5 kilometers (3.1 miles).
GLEN ELDER, KAN. – Residents across North Central Kansas experienced a jolt in the early hours of this morning as a series of earthquakes rattled the region, centered near Glen Elder.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the first and most significant tremor struck at 2:25 a.m., registering a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located on the south side of Glen Elder, at a depth of approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 miles).
Just over half an hour later, at 2:58 a.m., a second earthquake occurred, this time centered 1 kilometer southwest of Glen Elder, within Waconda Lake. This tremor measured 2.7 on the Richter scale, also at a depth of approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 miles).
The seismic activity prompted a flurry of reactions on social media. An overnight post on the KD Country 94 Facebook page quickly filled with comments from residents reporting they felt the shaking. Many also noted experiencing subsequent aftershocks throughout the early morning hours.
While no immediate reports of significant damage have been received, the overnight earthquakes have undoubtedly stirred the community and placed the region’s seismic activity under close scrutiny. The USGS continues to monitor the area for any further developments.
