Bill Self Becomes Kansas Basketball’s Winningest Coach With 77-69 Victory Over Michigan State

Bill Self etched his name in Kansas basketball history on Tuesday night, becoming the program’s all-time winningest coach. The No. 1 Jayhawks cruised to a 77-69 victory over Michigan State in the Champions Classic, with Hunter Dickinson leading the way with 28 points.

Self’s 591st career win surpassed Phog Allen’s long-standing record. The Jayhawks, now 3-0 on the season, have extended their dominance in the Champions Classic, winning their fifth straight game and eight of the last nine.

Dickinson continued his impressive play, recording his 50th career double-double with 12 rebounds. He also showcased his defensive prowess with three steals and a block.

Other key contributors for Kansas included Rylan Griffen (10 points, 6 rebounds), Zeke Mayo (10 rebounds, 7 assists), and KJ Adams (7 points, 3 blocks). Dajuan Harris Jr. moved up to third on the program’s all-time assist list.

Michigan State, led by Frankie Fidler’s 15 points, struggled from beyond the arc, making just 3 of 24 three-point attempts. The Spartans couldn’t overcome a late surge by the Jayhawks, who pulled away to secure the victory.

The Kansas Jayhawks will take on the Oakland Golden Grizzlies at Allen Fieldhouse this Saturday. Pregame coverage starts at 4:30 PM, with tip-off scheduled for 5:00 PM. You can catch the game on the following Sunflower State Radio stations: 95.5 KNDY-FM (Marysville), Z-96.3 The Lake (Cawker City), and SuperStar Country 102.5 & 1530 AM KQNK (Norton).
