A wildfire broke out in southeast Nebraska on Thursday afternoon, fueled by warm, dry, and windy conditions. The fire started north of Odell, near the intersection of PWF Road and Southwest 61st Street.
Firefighters from multiple departments responded to the rapidly spreading fire, which was fanned by strong winds. The fire threatened nearby farm homes and outbuildings, prompting firefighters to take defensive measures.
Farmers assisted in the firefighting efforts by creating firebreaks with their tractors and discs. The fire burned through both harvested and unharvested fields, including soybeans and corn.
In addition to the main fire, there were reports of hotspots reigniting from previous fires in the area. One hotspot flared up near South 36th Road and U.S. Highway 136, while another was located along the Holmesville Road. Fire crews from Beatrice Rural and Homestead National Historical Park responded to these incidents.
