Beloit Claims Team Title at Smith Center Invitational; Laurin Earns Medalist Honors

SMITH CENTER — Beloit captured the team championship Tuesday at the Smith Center Invitational Golf Meet, edging a competitive field at the Smith Center Municipal Golf Course.

The Trojans posted a winning score of 340 (+56), placing four golfers among the top 20 to secure the title. Smith Center’s varsity squad finished second at 350, followed by Norton in third with a 362. Lakeside (368) and Phillipsburg (372) rounded out the top five teams.

Smith Center also fielded a junior varsity group that did not record a team score due to an insufficient number of scoring players.

Individually, Phillipsburg’s Mason Laurin claimed medalist honors with a round of 79 (+9), narrowly topping Beloit’s Hudson Remus, who also shot 79 but finished runner-up via tiebreak criteria. Remus helped lead Beloit’s championship effort with a consistent performance throughout the day.

Beloit’s Carter Jermark added to the Trojans’ strong showing with an 80 (+10) to finish third overall. Phillipsburg’s Cole Shelton placed fourth at 82, while Lakeside’s Ryker Remus finished fifth with an 84.

Smith Center was led by Karson Sasse, who placed sixth with an 85. The Redmen showcased depth with Korey Weltmer and Reed Doane both shooting 88 to tie for eighth, while Brody Sadler carded an 89 to place 12th.

Norton’s top performer was Kelby Day, who finished eighth with an 88, while Northern Valley’s Conner David led his team with an 89.

The tournament, played on a par-72 course stretching 6,199 yards, featured 10 schools from across the region competing in 18-hole stroke play.

With the victory, Beloit established itself as an early contender this season, while Laurin’s medalist performance highlighted a strong individual field as teams continue spring competition.
