MANKATO, Kan. — Strong early-season performances and multiple personal bests highlighted the St. John’s High School Invitational held Tuesday at Rock Hills High School, as area athletes turned in standout efforts across both track and distance events.
Boys Division
Bennington’s Emmanuel McVay sprinted to victory in the 100 meters, clocking a season-best 12.01 to lead the field. His performance edged Lincoln’s Xavier Miller, who later returned to win the 200 meters in 23.87.
Sacred Heart’s Leo Dorzweiler turned in one of the top performances of the day, winning the 400 meters in a personal-best 52.00.
In distance races, Osborne’s Zane Poore claimed the 800-meter title in 2:23.97, while St. John’s junior Jeremiah Roderick delivered a home highlight by winning the 1600 meters in 5:07.65.
Girls Division
Bennington’s Reece Wolf captured the 100-meter title in 13.95, narrowly ahead of Lincoln’s Ember Larson.
Rock Hills’ Bethany Simmelink electrified the home crowd with a win in the 200 meters (28.47) and a runner-up finish in the 400 meters.
Sylvan-Lucas Unified’s Codie Huehl took the 400-meter crown in 1:03.14, while Sacred Heart standout Emmy Lee dominated the distance events, winning both the 800 meters (2:27.88) and 1600 meters (5:34.65).
Looking Ahead
With numerous personal bests recorded across the meet, teams will look to build momentum as the high school track and field season continues deeper into April.
