Texas Woman Killed in Four-Vehicle Chain-Reaction Crash on I-70 in Leavenworth County

LEAVENWORTH COUNTY, Kan. — A 68-year-old Texas woman lost her life on Wednesday afternoon following a four-vehicle chain-reaction crash along Interstate 70 in Leavenworth County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the collision occurred just after 1:30 p.m. west of Bonner Springs. Heavy traffic on eastbound I-70 had slowed when a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 19-year-old Jayden Ramirez of Shawnee, struck the rear of an approaching 2015 GMC Acadia.

The initial impact triggered a cascade of collisions. The GMC Acadia, driven by 68-year-old David Taliaferro of Lubbock, Texas, was pushed forward into a 2014 Ford Escape driven by Sina Stanford, 26, of Independence, Kansas. The Ford Escape was then shoved into a 2000 Kenworth semi-truck driven by 42-year-old Jeremy Domme of Topeka.

A passenger in the GMC Acadia, identified as 68-year-old Linda Taliaferro of Lubbock, Texas, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency medical personnel transported David Taliaferro to the University of Kansas Medical Center for treatment.

The drivers of the other three vehicles suffered only minor injuries. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that all five individuals involved were properly wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
