Lincoln Teen Dies in Mitchell County Highway Crash


MITCHELL COUNTY, Kan. — A 17-year-old from Lincoln has died following a two-vehicle crash that occurred late Thursday morning on K-14 highway in Mitchell County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) confirmed the accident happened shortly before noon on a section of K-14 just south of V Road.

According to the KHP report, a 2003 Chevrolet Town and Country minivan, driven by the teen, was traveling east when it lost control for unknown reasons and crossed the center line into the westbound lane. A semi-trailer truck traveling west then struck the minivan.

Following the collision, both vehicles caught fire, and the semi entered the north ditch.

The KHP identified the deceased as Austin Cearyn Jablonski of Lincoln. He was the sole occupant of the minivan. The driver of the semi was reported as not having sustained serious injuries. The incident remains under investigation by the KHP.
