Crochet Dominates as Red Sox Extend Win Streak to Seven

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox continued their winning ways Tuesday night, defeating the Kansas City Royals 6-2 at Fenway Park for their seventh consecutive victory. Ace Garrett Crochet was masterful on the mound, and Trevor Story provided the key hit to break a sixth-inning tie.

Crochet (13-4) was in complete command, scattering just four hits over seven strong innings and striking out eight. The win marks his ninth consecutive decision and moves the Red Sox to 13 games above .500 for the first time since the end of the 2021 season.

The game was a tight affair until the sixth inning. The Royals had tied it at 1-1 in the fourth on a Maikel Garcia RBI double, following a Bobby Witt Jr. triple. But with the score deadlocked in the bottom of the sixth, Story delivered a clutch, two-run blooper into center field that gave the Red Sox a 3-1 lead.

Story wasn’t done there, adding another RBI single in the seventh as Boston broke the game open with a three-run inning, extending their lead to 6-2. The Red Sox capitalized on two walks and a Jarren Duran single to load the bases before Story’s hit and a two-run popup by Wilyer Abreu sealed the deal.

Royals starter Ryan Bergert (1-1) took the loss, giving up two runs over 5 2/3 innings. The Royals attempted to rally in the seventh when Garcia walked and scored on a Randal Grichuk double, cutting the deficit to 3-2. However, Crochet shut the door, striking out the next two batters to end the threat.

The Red Sox will now go for a sweep of the three-game series on Wednesday. Trade deadline acquisition Dustin May (6-7, 4.85 ERA) is scheduled to make his Boston debut, facing off against the Royals’ Michael Wacha (5-9, 3.38).
