Wichita, KS – A Sedgwick County judge has sentenced a Wichita woman to 45 months in prison for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, stemming from an incident where she dragged a sheriff’s deputy with her vehicle during a traffic stop.
Nevaeh Thompson, 22, of Wichita, received her sentence on Tuesday from Judge Christopher Magana, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office. In addition to her prison term, Thompson will serve 36 months of post-release supervision. She had pleaded guilty to the charge in May.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m. on March 2, when a Sedgwick County Deputy initiated a traffic stop near Lincoln and Rock Road. The deputy identified the driver as Thompson, who reportedly informed the deputy that she might have outstanding warrants for her arrest.
Before the deputy could take her into custody, Thompson allegedly jumped back into her vehicle in an attempt to flee. The deputy followed, trying to prevent her escape, but Thompson managed to shift the car into drive and sped away, dragging the deputy a short distance.
The deputy sustained minor injuries during the incident. Thompson’s vehicle was later found abandoned in the 7300 block of E. Indianapolis. Surveillance footage from a nearby residence showed Thompson running from the vehicle. She was arrested five days after the incident.
