Man Arrested at Wabaunsee County Courthouse After Domestic Incident Spans Two Counties

ALMA, KS – A domestic-related incident that originated in Pottawatomie County culminated in the arrest of a man late Wednesday night in the parking lot of the Wabaunsee County Courthouse.

Wabaunsee County Sheriff Eric Kirsch reported that the incident began near St. George in Pottawatomie County, where a woman contacted authorities to report being followed by a vehicle driven by her ex-husband.

The woman, who was in her vehicle with another man, called 911 around 9:43 p.m. Wednesday as they drove south on K-99 highway, crossing from Pottawatomie County into Wabaunsee County south of Wamego. Wabaunsee County law enforcement officers were alerted to the unfolding situation.

The woman’s vehicle continued into Alma, ultimately arriving at the Wabaunsee County Courthouse parking lot. There, units from the Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office and Alma police officers took the woman’s ex-husband into custody around 10:26 p.m. without further incident, according to Sheriff Kirsch.

The arrested man was identified as Jaron Anthony Taitano, 37. He was booked into the Wabaunsee County Jail on charges of assault, stalking, and reckless driving. Taitano remained in custody at the Wabaunsee County Jail as of Thursday morning.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
