WABAUNSEE COUNTY, KS — An 79-year-old Colorado man lost his life late Wednesday afternoon following a violent rollover crash on Interstate 70 in Wabaunsee County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP), the incident occurred just before 5:00 p.m. when a westbound 2025 Toyota RAV4, driven by Blake Ronald Turner of Aurora, Colorado, veered off the left side of the roadway just west of Vera Road.
Investigating state troopers reported that Turner’s vehicle continued through the center median and traveled down an embankment. The SUV then rolled over before coming to a rest completely submerged in a nearby creek.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene, where Turner was pronounced dead. He was subsequently transported to Forensic Medical.
KHP crash logs noted that Turner was properly restrained with a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The exact cause of why the vehicle left the roadway remains under investigation.
