CONCORDIA, KS – Law enforcement in Kansas are reporting a persistent and concerning trend: drivers consistently exceeding posted speed limits, even as a statewide campaign aims to curb the dangerous behavior. The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) has released details of a particularly egregious incident highlighting the ongoing issue.
According to a statement from KHP Troop C, Trooper Peterson recently clocked a driver traveling northbound toward Concordia at a staggering 109 miles per hour. The driver’s dangerous speeds didn’t stop there. Even as the vehicle entered Concordia city limits, where the speed limit drops to 55 mph, the driver was still traveling at 91 mph.
“Speed limits exist for a reason—reaction time, stopping distance, and safety for everyone on the road. Slow down. Troopers are out working hard to keep Kansas roadways safe,” the KHP statement emphasized.
The driver was issued a ticket for $438.00, a significant penalty intended to deter future speeding. However, this incident is indicative of a broader problem facing Kansas roads.
Despite ongoing efforts by law enforcement to increase patrols and public awareness campaigns, excessive speeding remains a prevalent issue. Officials are urging drivers to prioritize safety and adhere to posted speed limits to prevent accidents and save lives. The KHP continues to stress that troopers are actively monitoring roadways and will enforce traffic laws to ensure the safety of all motorists.
