A fatal car accident occurred on Sunday evening in Brown County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 76-year-old Hiawatha resident, Richard E. Childress, was driving a 2013 Kia Sorento eastbound on U.S. 36 near Goldfinch Road when the vehicle veered off the road, entered a ditch, struck a sign, and rolled over. Childress was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities reported that Childress was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
