K-State women’s basketball concluded their season in front of a capacity crowd at Bramlage Coliseum on Sunday. The game against the Buffaloes was a fierce battle that lasted four quarters. Ultimately, Colorado emerged victorious, securing their spot in the Sweet 16. This matchup marked the first meeting between these two programs since 2011, with the final score being 63-50 in favor of Colorado.
The first quarter ended with both teams tied at 14 points. In the second quarter, Kansas State managed to establish a lead of up to nine points. However, CU made a strong comeback, and it was a remarkable play by Serena Sundell right before halftime that allowed the ‘Cats to go into the break with a slim lead of 35-33.
The third quarter belonged entirely to Colorado. They outscored K-State by 12 points, resulting in a 52-42 lead for the visitors. This was partly due to an intentional foul called against K-State’s Serena Sundell, which gave CU two free throws and a significant boost of momentum. Despite K-State’s efforts to narrow the gap to five points with three minutes remaining, they struggled to score in the final stretch, and the deficit never decreased to within one score.
With a final record of 26-8, the Wildcats concluded their season. This marks the highest number of wins for K-State women’s basketball since the 2002-2003 season.
