Phase 2 of the Kansas Department of Transportation’s pavement improvement project on K-18/K-177 in Riley County is expected to begin tomorrow, Feb. 23, conditions permitting.
During this phase of the project, traffic will be head-to-head on the northbound/westbound lanes of K-18/177 while the southbound/eastbound lanes are reconstructed. The intersections of McDowell Creek Road and Stadel Road will also be constructed in subphases in order to keep them open to traffic.
The K-18/McDowell Creek Road intersection will be restricted to right-in, right-out turning access only. Northbound K-177 will not be allowed to turn left at the Stadel Road intersection; and southbound K-18 will not be allowed to turn left at the Zeandale Road intersection.
This configuration will be in place until May. Signage, channelizers, barricades and temporary pavement markings will direct traffic through the area.
Turning restrictions at the intersections of McDowell Creek Road, Pride Drive, Johnson Road and Acorn Lane will continue for the remainder of the project, which is scheduled to be complete in August.
KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone. To stay aware of highway construction projects across Kansas, go to www.KanDrive.gov or call 5-1-1.
