AAA: Nearly 44 Million Travelers Leaving Town for Unofficial Start of Summer

AAA projects 43.8 million travelers, a 4% increase from last year, to hit the road this Memorial Day, nearing the 2005 record. Road trips will set a record, with 38.4 million travelers, up 4% from last year. Air travelers are expected to reach 3.51 million, up 4.8% from last year and 9% from 2019. Domestic airfare is 2% costlier, domestic hotels are 5% cheaper, and domestic car rentals are 17% cheaper compared to last year. INRIX advises early travel and avoiding peak hours. Top destinations include theme parks, entertainment venues, and European cities. Trends show interest in bucket list trips, milestone celebrations, travel insurance, cruises, all-inclusive vacations, rail vacations, and Asia trips, especially Japan. The survey reports growing interest in high-end cruises, rail vacations, and adventure in nature.
