The Kansas Association of Broadcasters (KAB) is proud to announce Bruce Dierking as the 2026 recipient of the Hod Humiston Award for Sports Broadcasting, recognizing excellence in sports broadcasting and a lasting commitment to community service.

Dierking has been a cornerstone of Kansas broadcasting for more than four decades. As the voice of the Marysville Bulldogs on KNDY AM & FM since 1980, his play-by-play coverage of football and boys and girls basketball has become a cherished tradition for generations of fans across north central Kansas. In addition to his on-air work, Dierking’s leadership of Dierking Communications has strengthened local radio across multiple Kansas communities, ensuring local voices and stories continue to be heard.

His impact extends far beyond the microphone. A past Chairman of the Kansas Association of Broadcasters, Dierking has played a key role in advancing the industry statewide. His leadership in the Marysville Chamber of Commerce, the Jaycees, and numerous community and preservation efforts—including the successful restoration of the historic Union Pacific Railroad Depot—reflects a deep commitment to civic engagement and community development.

Dierking is also widely recognized for his mentorship, having guided and inspired generations of broadcasters. His influence can be heard not only in his own work, but in the voices of those he has mentored throughout his career.

“Bruce invests in people, asking for nothing in return other than their best effort,” said Derek Nester, Studio Producer for the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network/Audacy Kansas City. “I can think of no individual who more perfectly embodies the spirit of this honor—excellence in sports broadcasting paired with an unwavering commitment to community service.”

The Hod Humiston Award honors individuals who embody the spirit of its namesake—a pioneer in Kansas sports broadcasting who combined professional excellence with community leadership. Dierking’s career reflects those ideals and continues to strengthen the future of broadcasting in Kansas.

Dierking will be recognized at the KAB Student Broadcast & Sports Seminar on April 9 at Arrowhead Stadium.
