Volunteer for Marysville’s Community Cleanup Event

By Wayne Kruse

Weeds in the cracks, trash along the curb and dusty sidewalks are the target Thursday, May 28, during Clean Up and Hang Out in downtown Marysville.

The community cleanup begins at 5:30 p.m. Volunteers should meet at the OneMarysville office, 617 Broadway, before heading out to pull weeds, sweep sidewalks and pick up trash throughout downtown. Trash bags will be provided.

The cleanup comes one week before Big Blue River Days. The June 5 and 6 event includes the Big Blue BBQ, live music, a car show and other activities throughout downtown Marysville.

The event is open to anyone and is designed to be family friendly.

After the cleanup, volunteers are invited to gather near Sarge’s Sports Bar and Pony Park for free hot dogs, chips and water grilled by CES Group.

The evening will also include live music by Kayn & Co. featuring Kayn Milholland, Blake Nations and Tommy Brinegar.

“We want downtown looking good for Big Blue River Days, but these nights are also about people spending time together,” said Wayne Kruse, executive director of OneMarysville. “People can help for a while, grab a hot dog, listen to music and spend time together. It gives people a reason to be downtown together.”

OneMarysville organizes Clean Up and Hang Out events throughout the year as a way to encourage community pride and bring people together downtown.
