Join the Neighborhood Block Parties on May 31

By Wayne Kruse

Marysville residents are invited to host block parties in their own neighborhoods from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, May 31.

The block parties can be as simple as lawn chairs on a driveway, yard games in an open space or a grill with neighbors bringing their own meat. Hosts decide what works for their block.

Last year’s block parties varied from neighbors gathering around a patio to a whole neighborhood playing kids’ games through the afternoon, with plenty of other versions in between.

The goal is to make it easier for neighbors to spend time together and get to know one another.

“Last year, we saw that these don’t have to be complicated to be good,” said Mandy Cook, president of the OneMarysville Board of Directors. “The point is to give people a reason to visit with their neighbors and enjoy being together.”

OneMarysville will provide yard signs so people can identify block party locations. The organization also will provide invitations hosts can hand out to neighbors.

Hosts are asked to contact Wayne Kruse by Saturday, May 23, by emailing wayne@onemarysville.com or calling or texting 785-713-9866.

OneMarysville will keep a list of all participating block parties.
