GOODLAND, Kan. — Law enforcement officials in Sherman County are turning to the community for assistance following a distressing hit-and-run incident that left a juvenile’s pet dead on Friday afternoon.
The Goodland Police Department was dispatched to the 700 block of W. 16th Street just after 4:00 p.m. on May 1. According to investigators, a juvenile was walking their dog on a leash and crossing the street when a vehicle struck the animal in the middle of the roadway.
Search for Red Pickup Truck
Witnesses described the involved vehicle as a red pickup truck. Rather than stopping to render aid or check on the juvenile, the driver continued eastbound on 16th Street.
While the dog was still alive when the incident was initially reported, police confirmed that it tragically succumbed to its injuries shortly thereafter.
Call for Video Evidence
Officers have been canvassing the neighborhood for security and doorbell camera footage, but they are now asking residents and business owners in the area to review their own recordings.
“We are asking individuals to look at their cameras between 4:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.,” the Goodland Police Department stated. “We appreciate your assistance as always.”
