GOODLAND, Kan. — The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has announced the immediate closure of Interstate 70 in both directions between Goodland and Colby. The closure is due to severely reduced visibility caused by intense blowing dust across the region.
High winds in Western Kansas have kicked up significant amounts of topsoil, creating hazardous driving conditions that officials describe as near-zero visibility in some stretches. KDOT and the Kansas Highway Patrol are urging motorists to stay off the roadway to prevent accidents.
