Suspect Apprehended After Shots Fired Incident in Brewster

BREWSTER, KS (May 13, 2025) – A suspect is in custody following a shots fired incident at a residence in Brewster, Kansas, on Monday evening.

The Thomas County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call at approximately 6:25 PM regarding shots fired at a home in Brewster. Deputies arriving at the scene determined that an individual had discharged a firearm towards the residence before fleeing. Authorities also established that the incident was connected to a reported theft in the city of Colby.

The suspect subsequently left Thomas County and entered Sherman County, where the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect’s vehicle. A pursuit ensued, which ended when the suspect’s vehicle was involved in a crash. The individual then surrendered to law enforcement without further incident.

The suspect has been arrested and will face formal charges.

The Thomas County Sheriff’s Department expressed their sincere gratitude to the numerous agencies and individuals who collaborated in the response and apprehension, including Thomas County EMS, Colby Dispatch, the Colby Police Department, the Goodland Police Department, the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Brewster Town Marshal, and the Mayor of Brewster.

Authorities emphasized that there is currently no ongoing threat to the public. The Sheriff’s Department also extended their thanks to the community for their valuable tips and cooperation, which aided in locating the suspect.
