No. 17 Kansas Dominates Towson Behind Bidunga’s Double-Double

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sophomore forward Flory Bidunga delivered a powerhouse performance Tuesday night, recording 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead No. 17 Kansas to a convincing 73-49 victory over Towson at Allen Fieldhouse.

The Jayhawks (9-3) extended their dominant home record under head coach Bill Self to 273-9 against unranked opponents, showcasing a suffocating defense that held the Tigers to just 27.5% shooting from the field.

Bidunga Sets the Tone

Bidunga, the Big 12’s leading shot-blocker, dominated the paint from the opening tip. He scored the Jayhawks’ first six points and notched two blocks within the first seven minutes. The 6-foot-10 sophomore finished the night 7-of-8 from the field, recording his seventh career double-double.

Balanced Offensive Attack

With preseason All-American Darryn Peterson sidelined for an eighth game due to quadriceps cramps, Kansas relied on a balanced scoring effort:

  • Tre White: 16 points and a career-high six assists.
  • Melvin Council: 15 points, following a career-best 36-point game against N.C. State.
  • Bryson Tiller: 11 points, contributing to the Jayhawks’ wire-to-wire lead.

Defensive Dominance vs. Rebounding Struggles

While Kansas controlled the scoreboard—leading by as many as 25 points in the second half—the game wasn’t without flaws. Despite Towson’s poor shooting (3-of-24 from three-point range), the Tigers dominated the glass with a 22-12 advantage in offensive rebounds.

“We didn’t rebound the ball,” Coach Self noted post-game. “Other than that, I thought we played pretty well. Our first-shot defense was really good.”

The Jayhawks displayed remarkable discipline early on, avoiding their first team foul until nearly 11 minutes into the game. Their efficiency was equally high, connecting on 10 of their first 13 field-goal attempts to effectively end Towson’s upset hopes before halftime.

Kansas will host Davidson on Monday, December 22nd at Allen Fieldhouse.

Boil Water Advisory Re-Issued for the City of Haddam, Washington County

Residents of Washington County are advised to boil their water for at least one minute before drinking, preparing food, or using it for ice cubes. This precaution comes after a waterline break at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment's (KDHE) public water supply system, which resulted in a loss of pressure and potential bacterial contamination. KDHE will continue to monitor the situation and issue any necessary rescind orders.
