Tipton Woman Dies After Semi-Trailer and Car Collide in No-Passing Zone

MITCHELL COUNTY, Kan. – An 84-year-old Tipton woman is dead following a collision between a semi-trailer and a car in a no-passing zone on Tuesday morning.

The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) reported that the fatal crash occurred around 11:21 a.m. on Kansas Highway 181 near mile marker 32.

According to the KHP, a 1991 Buick, driven by a 69-year-old man from Hunter, was traveling northbound and allegedly attempted to pass the semi-trailer in a marked no-passing zone. The semi-trailer, driven by a 52-year-old Nebraska man, then reportedly crossed the center line while navigating a curve.

The Buick subsequently left the roadway and then struck the semi-trailer upon reentering the road. The impact caused the semi-trailer to roll into a ditch.

The passenger of the semi-trailer, identified as Mary Dubbert, 84, of Tipton, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-trailer was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Buick sustained no apparent injuries, the KHP stated.

The incident remains under investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
